Silk paper ‘prints like gloss’

18 April 2008

Sappi Fine Paper Europe claims to have manufactured a high quality coated silk paper that prints and finishes like a gloss. Tempo Silk, an innovative coated wood-free paper is said to offer printers increased productivity and faster job turnarounds. It is available in sheets in basis weights from 100-300g/m2.

Tempo Silk uses a new patents pending coating design to provide a super smooth silk surface that “delivers excellent printed results and fast ink setting and drying, as well as superior scuff resistance”. Sappi says the brand also enables printers to reduce their use of anti set-off powder by typically 50 to 75 per cent, and sometimes even up to 100 per cent, with both environmental and health benefits.

"Printers are facing growing pressure to meet shorter delivery deadlines," says Gino Geerardyn, Tempo project leader at Sappi. "Tempo Silk paper offers them the opportunity to significantly improve process flow, with faster printing and converting, without the need for a protective varnish. Less anti set-off powder also means fewer wash-ups and increased press availability."
