"Russia is a fascinating market, in which we invest to offer our most important Russian customers fast, on-site service", said Siegwerk’s ceo Herbert Forker at the recent opening of the company’s new ink manufacturing plant in St Petersburg.
In recent years, Siegwerk has built up a stable market position in Russia, the Ukraine and several adjacent countries. For example, in the area of high quality inks for tobacco packaging, it claims a market share in Russia of about 70 per cent.
"Russia has become the centre of packaging ink for cigarette and tobacco products," says Siegwerk director Hugo Noordhoek Hegt. "With our new production plant we signal a clear commitment to the Russian market."
Packaging offset ink and solvent based colours will be produced in the St Petersburg plant. Siegwerk says important customers and brand name manufacturers are situated near the new plant, “so fast delivery and optimal service support are guaranteed”.
In addition to St Petersburg, the company has a facility in Moscow which produces inks for flexible packaging. The two Russian plants are part of a European production group, in which basic colours are prefabricated in a few central manufacturing plants and later tailored to specific customer requests within a network of finishing and service units.
Siegwerk says this enables it to supply special products, even on short notice, with implementation in the customer’s production process supported by service technicians who are readily available due to their proximity to the customers.
