New UK digital printing company Borble has quickly found a niche in the short run label printing market. Director Barry Griffiths says its Xeikon digital press is ideally suited to shorter print runs, requiring no repro or plates, and producing high quality results.
"We are perfectly placed to be of service to large scale label printers who are unable to meet requirements in-house for the short runs of product labels that are becoming increasingly common due to increased choice," he comments. "In this scenario it is more economic to subcontract the work to us than to tool up a traditional press."
Borble's service has enabled two UK businesses – LabelsPlus and Wolverhampton Labels – to enter markets that they were unable to compete in previously.
LabelsPlus is a broker, sourcing quality labels for clients at competitive prices from a range of printers nationwide. Company director Mark Chewin says: "Borble produces multi colour, high quality, smallish volume labels, so we are able to sell labels to customers we would not normally get business from."
Wolverhampton Labels managing director Bob Walters adds: "Borble are able to give people more for their money. Their big advantage is that there's no plate making. If a job comes along that has a lot of changes on it with the client wanting less in the way of quantity but more in variety, then their machinery is ideal for it. It will enable us to win orders we would not traditionally have won because we'd have been too expensive."
Rhyl based Borble started operations this March. As well as labels, its Xeikon 330 press is capable of producing very long borders and extra-wide banners without the need for patterns, text or images to repeat. There are many applications for this type of printing in the education, interior design, sport and advertising sectors.
