Dutch board converter Sheeting Service Utrecht (SSU) has installed a MarquipWardUnited SheetWizard.
with the ability to handle small orders efficiently.
“This machine is a delight for the production planner who always wants more tonnage to be sheeted than can be done,” comments plant manager Rene Hoogervorst. “It allows us to handle any sheet size and material without having to compromise on quality or production time. Due to the almost fully automatic system, the operator’s skill has become less important for running the machine.
“For us, the choice of a SheetWizard was made because we were able to buy options that we required and not just the necessary standard features. Although we have been running 24 hours a day for the last six months, we have not had the need to sharpen the knife yet, but we are content in the knowledge that this can be done within two hours instead of eight, giving us an extra six hours of production.”
The machine at SSU has four shaftless unwind stands. Each web is handled separately with for tension control, decurling and edge guiding. A dual level slitting system with digital readout knife setting and full width upper and lower web cleaning allows the cross-cut knife to be used to its maximum capacity of 1,000g/m2 “with clean edges on all four sides of the sheet”.
The MarquipWardUnited knife also has an advanced speed curve claimed to outperform traditional knives, particularly on very short and long sheets, while using less power than comparable machines. The sheet length range of 279-2,080mm provides the full market coverage required by SSU. The Wizard’s ability to sharpen the cross-cut knives in the machine has also proven to be a great advantage.
The sheet delivery and overlapping system is said to allow higher speeds before marking occurs - across a wide range of paper and boards with easily damaged surfaces. The stacker includes an automatic non stop pallet change in which the full pallets are driven out of the machine on a flush-to-floor mesh belt conveyor and the new pallets are introduced by a precision pusher.
MarquipWardUnited will demonstrate a SheetWizard at drupa 2008 (May 29-June 11).
