Sheeter is super size

3 June 2008

Portuguese pulp and paper manufacturer Portucel Soporcel Group has ordered two cut size converting and packaging lines from ECH Will and Pemco for the new paper mill it is building at Setúbal. One line will include a 16-pocket cut-size sheeter with a 3.48m working width – said to be the widest of its kind in the world.

ECH Will, Pemco and Langhammer Maschinenbau, all Körber PaperLink Group companies, will supply the two converting and packaging lines for the new mill, which will house a paper machine that will extend Portucel’s production by 500,000t.. A third line will be added as the production curve of the paper machine rises.

The first converting line is designed for the highest possible output. It will consist of the16-pocket ECH Will SLK 470 cut size sheeter, two Pemco high speed packaging lines, labelling and strapping equipment, and two Langhammer high speed palletizers. The second line will provide a high degree of flexibility for Portucel. It will consist of an 8-pocket SLK 490 flexible cut-size sheeter, a Pemco flexible packaging line, and a Langhammer palletizer.

Both lines are equipped with a Manufacturing Execution System from ECH Will that will provide valuable data for production planning and detailed fault analysis. Order, reel and packaging material handling are also said to be guaranteed for a smooth and trouble-free production process.

Portucel Soporcel already has eight existing cut-size lines and three folio size ream wrappers from Körber PaperLink companies installed and working in its existing facilities.
