Sheeter does Trojan work

12 April 2004

Körber PaperLink North America has supplied an SHM 1450 Dual Rotary high speed sheeter to Trojan Litho, of Renton, Washington. The machine, manufactured by Pemco, is designed to handle paper, board and plastics. It is equipped with ECH Will's proven dual rotary cross cutting technology.

Trojan's 200,000ft2 facility produces paperboard packaging for a wide range of applications. Operating on two of its three shifts, the company now sheets 100 per cent of the paperboard mediums and liners it needs, "and with zero defects," reports plant manager Gary Vetsch.

The stock consists of about 80 per cent SPS with a caliper range of 10-30 point – "which the SHM 1450 exceeds on both ends of the scale," he adds – and 18 per cent recycled stock. The remaining two per cent is high end foil board, a substrate handled by few facilities. And Trojan soon will begin sheeting fine papers from roll stock for its commercial printing operations.

"Before installing the SHM 1450, we had to play it safe and allow for waste," Gary Vetsch reveals. "Now we can sheet the exact quantities we need and react quickly enough to customize our process while eliminating the high cost over-producing and maintaining multiple set-ups on press.

"The SHM 1450 is key to our future. We're more competitive, because we can produce the same quality product on which we've built our reputation more economically."
