Second site gives a Leading Edge

15 September 2005

UK labels and packaging specialist Leading Edge is investing £3M in a new factory at Peterborough. Over 27 new jobs will be created at the 19,000ft2 facility, which will be operational within 3-4 weeks. With state of the art equipment, stock management, logistics, in-house design studio, repro, and computer to plate technology, the new site will replicate the company's existing operation based in Gravesend.

Ian Barwick, joint managing director, comments: "Peterborough was a natural choice for our expansion plans. Within our customer base we have a substantial number of produce companies, both growers and importers, located either in Kent or Lincolnshire, so it made sense when we expanded out of our site in Gravesend to find a suitable location within this catchment area. We also identified Peterborough as an area for potential growth, with good transport links and good working population making the Orton Southgate location ideal for us."

The 24-hour Peterborough site will complement Leading Edge's existing operation with two new Nilpeter nine colour UV flexo servo driven presses with a silkscreen capability enabling tactile labels to be produced, for example, with Braille. The site will focus on serving fresh food markets, primarily for major food manufacturers and retailers.
