Seamer boosts shrink sleeve production

12 September 2005

US label converter Multi-Color has increased its shrink sleeve label production capabilities with the addition of a seamer and two inspector rewinders from Stanford Products. Claimed to be the fastest machine of its type, the seamer will enable Cincinnati, Ohio, based Multi-Color to handle increasing shrink sleeve production economically.

Designed to eliminate the problem of open seams that are the major cause of label applicator downtime, the seamer is said to provide precise solvent application control matched with machine speed to ensure consistent metering of solvent.

The new inspector rewinders perform 100 per cent inspection at high speeds and are said to produce smooth, flat finished rolls. The oscillating action of the winder reduces the pressure on the seams and folds, making them less visible on the finished product.

Multi-Color prints shrink sleeves in up to 10 colours rotogravure and flexo.

Stanford's Seamus Lafferty comments: "We are extremely proud of our business relationship with Multi-Color - an innovative and progressive player in the US shrink sleeve market. It was the first US company to adopt our new shrink sleeve technology in a continuous production environment. The production quality and speeds they have achieved have validated Stanford's claims of speeds up to 50 per cent faster than the industry average, with extremely low scrap rates."
