Sealed Air Cryovac micro-layer films bring ‘new technological capability’

24 October 2013

Sealed Air Europe has launched the Cryovac CT-3 range of micro-layer films, designed to enable retail customers to benefit from an optimised display for general purpose products, including frozen pizza.

According to the company, which focuses on food safety and security, facility hygiene and product protection, the new range provides a “radical new technological capability within the packaging industry”.

Consisting initially of two products, Cryovac CT-303E and CT-304E, the new patented films range incorporates 25 to 50 discrete micro-layers, compared to conventional shrink films, which are typically comprised of 1, 3 or 5 layers.

Cryovac CT-303E and CT-304E provide “unique high abuse properties” and enhanced performance compared to significantly thicker conventional shrink films, Sealed Air Europe says, with a 30% to 50% packaging weight reduction.

The weight reduction means the Cryovac CT-3 range offers improved sustainability, with less raw materials and energy consumed, and a reduced number of cores, cartons and pallets.

Natalia Balogh, European product manager for shrink packaging at Sealed Air, says: “This revolutionary CT micro-layered shrink range creates value for our customers in addition to an optimised total resource efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

“We continually invest in innovation to lead the protection market, and this investment has resulted in a unique packaging solution, providing a higher retail appeal and substantial financial benefits for our customers.”

According to the company, other benefits offered by Cryovac CT-3 include: up to 50% reduction in number of roll changeovers resulting in increased up-time; higher productivity; improved labour utilisation; reduced storage space for packaging supplies; and energy savings by lowering shrink tunnel temperatures.
