Sakurai satisfies carton debut

2 October 2006

Hull, UK, based Fusion Print has invested in an SRA2 Sakurai offset press to serve its traditional customers and tap into the market for short run carton work. The new company has enjoyed rapid growth since opening in March, 2006. The production plant is housed in a 3,500ft2 facility.

Initially, the idea was to install a five colour B2 machine, but shortage of floorspace in the factory, and the ability to run most B2 work on the SRA2 Sakurai, with its inherent cost advantages, was ‘the clincher’, according to company owner Steve Pelham. “The new high pile delivery was crucial to us placing the order, and the press was available immediately,” he explains.

Capable of printing at up to 16,000 impressions/hour, and crucially for Fusion Print, able to handle cartonboard up to 600 micron, the Sakurai is said to havealready proven itself, and allowed the company to tap into the lucrative market for short run cartons, which it sees as an area of major growth potential.
