Roland goes direct

13 April 2007

The new Roland 700 DirectDrive offset press offers direct drive of the plate cylinders and change-over times of less than 20min. In combination with an intelligent coupling system, direct drive of the plate cylinder, enables simultaneous changing of all printing plates and makeready operations. During a change-over, plate changes in all printing units and blanket wash-ups are concurrent; the inking roller wash-up is concurrent with blanket and impression cylinder wash-ups - and said to be made at the optimum speed for each function.

Advantages during the production run are also claimed: individual inking units can be deactivated and image start can be corrected by up to 99mm. In addition, the new press offers various developments in feeder and delivery to reduce makeready time. The feeder base height has been increased by 50 per cent, to 834mm, and the pile load capacity by 70 per cent, to 2.2t.

New pile lifting technology has doubled the speed in raising and lowering; and a new suction head suspension gives improvements in blast and separating elements. The new delivery is a development of the AirGlide system.

There is also a new facility for UV drying between printing units, with slide-in modules used as both interdeck and end dryers.
