Rising raw materials costs

28 February 2006

The British Coatings Federation says its printing ink members continue to report escalating raw materials costs. The price of a barrel of oil recently topped $60, while copper - used mainly for metallic inks – increased 200 per cent.

BCF ceo Moira McMillan comments: "Despite recent consolidation and amalgamations within the industry which have resulted in significantly improved efficiency and lower production costs, margins have not improved, due to continuous pressure from raw material prices. It is therefore necessary to alert printers to this situation, so that they can plan and budget for the inevitable future rise in printing ink prices."
