Resealable retort opens in Japan

31 October 2005

Zip-Pak has partnered Toyo Seikan to introduce Japan's first resealable retort bag with connected flanges below the zipper profile. Applied to a refillable nutraceutical 'fluid diet' pouch, the Zip-Pak Retort zipper is the first retortable zipper approved in Japan for this application.

Able to withstand high heat during retort or autoclaving processes without degrading, the new Retort zipper brings the benefits of resealable technology to retort applications.

The new pack will withstand retort process temperatures of up to 125degC for 30min. The connected flange prevents bag contents from leaking into the zipper profile during the retort process and handling. With joined flanges separating the zipper from the product, the zipper area is kept clean and the package is more attractive. The sealed flanges also offer package security for consumers, allowing shoppers to easily identify pouches that have been tampered with.
