Recycling at drupa

12 June 2008

As the main paper sponsor for drupa 2008, UPM took the responsibility to look out for the waste paper during the show. The company agreed to recycle all printing paper waste generated during drupa and worked in close co-operation with waste management company Remondis.

During the fair, printed and unprinted waste paper was collected to containers and transported to the Remondis baling facility in Langenfeld, near Düsseldorf. From there, the bales were transported to various UPM mills to be used as valuable raw material in paper production.

UPM mills in Chapelle, France, Schwedt, Germany, and Shotton, UK, are producing paper from 100 per cent recovered paper. Other UPM mills using recovered paper are Augsburg and Schongau, in Germany, Kaipola, Finland, and Steyrermühl, in Austria.
