Raflatac raises RFID options

24 June 2009

UPM Raflatac is to strengthen its RFID business by turning the Jyväskylä facility in Finland into a centre for global product and process development, and piloting new products. Production of RFID tags and inlays will be transferred from Jyväskylä to the new factory in Guangzhou, China, and to Fletcher, North Carolina, in the US.

The proposed actions, which will reduce the total number of employees of the RFID business by around 25, are estimated to be completed by the end of March 2010.

“With the planned measures we are seeking to improve our growth potential and future profitability,” says Christer Härkönen, senior VP of the RFID business. “We will be stronger than before and focus on serving our customers and deployment of RFID. UPM Raflatac is committed to developing the RFID business and strengthening its current position as the globally leading producer of RFID tags and inlays.“
