Qualvis Packaging has purchased the Speedmaster CD 102-6LX press that was shown by Heidelberg at IPEX. The Leicester, UK, based company’s fourth Speedmaster in 15 years, it is a dedicated UV machine.
Speedmaster CD 102 technology has moved on significantly since Qualvis first bought one of the machines. Today the Preset Plus feeder and delivery can achieve 10-15 per cent higher productivity than previous models. The delivery is positioned for easy access to the dryers, for easy maintenance and quick change-over.
Heidelberg says it has worked in partnership with IST to reduce rippling and enable printers to produce better coatings and completely dry sheets at higher speeds. InstantStart links the press and dryer “so that minutes are shaved off makeready time on each job”. These aspects are vital for Qualvis, which offers very fast response in the short to mid range (10,000-50,000 run) sector with most work delivered next day. UV and the interdeck dryers will help with turnround times and lift applied silver and gold effects.
Specified with six colours – four process inks with two specials – the press will run a treble shift pattern, although the company is currently also reviewing the benefits and drawbacks on introducing continental shift working.
