Promoting plasma

6 December 2010

Plasmawerk, the Geman surface pretreatment systems company founded in July 2009 by the former management of Softal, has appointed Merlion to represent it in the UK and Eire.

Plasma technology strives to allow the application of ever thinner layers onto the material to be treated. When applying liquids to surfaces, the resulting layer typically has a thickness of a few micrometres.

Taken to the limit, plasma technology can be used to apply nothing more than a molecular monolayer.

According to Plasmawerk, this could give cost savings of up to 90% compared with surface coating with a conventional primer or top coat application.

To support this new technology, Merlion has appointed Chris Rackham, who has many years of experience with corona treatment and converting equipment, as its Engineering Director.
