Promoting paper

PaperPlus, the Speciality Paper Manufacturers Association, is running an information campaign to raise awareness of paper as a technically advanced and environmentally responsible substrate for the labelling and flexible packaging of food, beverages and other consumer products.

"Through targeted communications we will show that, despite being around for nearly 2000 years, paper is continuously being developed and upgraded in anticipation of the increasing requirements for protecting, preserving and presenting food, beverages and other consumer products" says Rein J Middelburg, secretary general of the association. "Additionally, exciting new developments are on the way that will give improved moisture, grease and other barriers to packaging papers. These will involve the use of biopolymers, plasma polymerization and nano-technology."
