The UK printing industry's Partnership at Work Agreement and Code of Practice - which aims to improve the working environment for employees whilst increasing productivity at company level - has been officially launched by Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Minister for Employment Relations and Consumer Affairs,
Supported by trade union Amicus and the British Printing Industry Federation, the new agreement takes into account the technical, economic and social changes that have occurred in recent years. It also looks to the future with clauses on social issues such as sick pay, the regulation of agency and temporary workers, information and consultation, and flexible working patterns.
It will allow discussion of issues such as productivity, competitiveness and new legislation to take place on a regular basis between Amicus and the BPIF, with the help of an independent chair.
BPIF immediate past president Ken Iddon says: "We applaud our partners at Amicus and its members for voting in favour of this agreement. This is a significant milestone for the whole of the printing industry, and this landmark partnership will enable us all to benefit from a more modern and vibrant industry, which now has a much brighter future."
