Print coating keeps bacteria at bay

6 March 2015

Ultrachem has introduced Safe to Touch Print (STTP) water based antibacterial print coatings.

The new coatings use a combination of BPR approved ingredients to deactivate all current common pathogens, and are said to have been trialled successfully "throughout the UK". A kill rate of 99.99% of bacteria, viruses and fungi, makes all printed surfaces coated with STTP effective within 4min, giving protection that will last the lifetime of the print.

These antibacterial properties are said to make the coatings ideal for a wide range of end uses, including non-food packaging. Feedback from the recent print trials has given reassurance that the product does not affect the runnability, drying characteristics, appearance, consistency and final printed result.

Safe to Touch Print is available in matt, gloss, double-sided silk, soft touch matt and low migration finishes. The product has been validated to EN22196 and EN20743
