Packaging film converter Kobusch-Sengewald has initiated non stop printing at its Warburg production site through an "intelligent production shift system" and investment in a new 10 colour flexo press.
The German company spent €3.5M on a Fischer & Krecke Flexpress 16S1 with servo technology, a camera system for automatic print inspection, on-line control of bar codes and a Delta-E-colour monitoring system. Capable of more than 400m/min, the 1,300mm print width, 370-1,050mm repeat press has been running at the site since July.
"The new machine improves our position in the market considerably," states managing director of Erwin Vahle. "The Flexpress 16S1 shortens set-up times by two-thirds per inking unit. Units that are idle during the production run can be prepared for the next job. The time saved can be used for efficient production."
Previously, the company used seven flexo presses. With the new machine, this has been reduced to five - yet the total printing capacity and output has increased. Non stop production was made possible by the introduction of a modified production shift system in the printing department. Previously, the production ran 24 hours a day, six days a week; now it is running 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Only a few months after certification to the HACCP international hygiene standard, Kobusch-Sengewald has also received approval to the even more stringent BRC/IoP guidelines.
