Primer promotes adhesion on metallised films

2 February 2015

Flint Group has launched an innovative single-component primer that provides a very strong adhesion of nitrocellulose based inks printed on metallised PET and OPP for the flexible packaging industry.

The chemical composition of PreCoat FMET P13 AE does not require the use of a cross-linker, ensuring ease of use and reuse of press leftovers. It is also suitable for printing on AlOx coated PET, providing the necessary thermal resistance and bond strength required for high performance packaging.

PreCoat FMET P13 AE is aimed at converters interested in products in line with the latest regulations concerning the printing of packaging and its recycling. The primer does not require the use of isocyanate or any other cross-linker, and is free of PVC or PVDC polymers. Showing high block resistance, it can be used with full web coverage, avoiding on-register printing.

Dr Matthias Henker, Flint Group's director research and development flexible packaging EMEA, says: "PreCoat FMET P13 can be overprinted with a variety of ink series, which increases their application range. As a purely one-component product, the primer supports improved overall equipment efficiency and waste reduction."

The new primer is now available for all EMEA flexible packaging converters who are printing on metallised films and AlOx coated PET materials.
