Primary considerations

Ashe Converting Equipment is building a 6.2 m wide primary film slitter rewinder for a major North American film manufacturer. The 40 tonne machine is designed for fully automatic handling of 8,000 kg parent rolls direct from an extrusion line. The parent roll storage system is fully robotic and includes slitter machine loading and empty core return.

The slitter will have fully automatic rotary shear knife setting of 15 knives and be equipped with 20 rewind arms, to slit and rewind rolls from 250-1,600 mm wide and 1,000 mm in diameter. Finished rolls will have wrapping facilities and off-load conveyors to weighing stations, and reel handling for palletising. All idler rolls will be driven and of lightweight carbon fibre design.

The machine will be equipped with high speed traversing trim winders for 750 mm wide, 750 mm diameter rolls “with easy unloading and low winding tension”.
