Press made good as new

Irish packaging printer AGI has increased capacity at its Dublin facility by installing a refurbished Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 102-10-P, a B1 long perfector.

“Having a 10-colour press means we can print both sides of the sheet in one pass, including specials or seals, which along with increased speeds will allow a greater output per hour,” says Adrian Matthews, AGI’s group technical project manager. “These factors, combined with the larger format, mean we benefit from much greater production efficiency.“

Value for money dictated the secondhand route with the 2005 model press, which was sourced from Heidelberg Belgium and refurbished using original Heidelberg parts prior to delivery. “It looks brand new. Even the Heidelberg engineers were amazed by the condition of the equipment,” says Matthews.

AGI already has an Image Control spectrophotometer which it will use across both the existing Speedmaster CD 102-6+L and SM 102-10-P. As part of the training, Heidelberg is doing a refresher on colour control in readiness for the company to attain ISO 12647-2 next year. AGI's facility in Slough, UK, is already certified.
