Polymer price protection

The London Metal Exchange has launched global futures contracts for PP and LLDPE, enabling the plastics industry to hedge against volatile polymer prices for the first time (see March, page 15). LME chief executive Simon Heale promises: "Futures contracts will give the industry the ability to manage price risk for the first time, enabling it to better forecast profits and to concentrate on its drive for innovation".
