Plastics price rises

7 May 2010

IK, the German Association for Plastics Packagings and Films, reports that commodity prices this year have reached the level of the first half of 2008 - a time when demand was considerably higher.

‘Therefore,’ the association observes, ‘the current price increases ‘have not solely been caused by the economic upswing or the price increases with primary products. For example, the increase for polyethylene in comparison to ethylene has doubled.

‘This increase in income for plastics manufacturers leads to further dramatic margin reductions for packaging companies,’ states IK.
