Pill protects blister packs

15 June 2006

Following three years’ development to satisfy new UK legislation and address BS 8404 and BS EN 14375, 3 Point Blue has launched Pill protect – a new way of making blister packed drugs child resistant.

Simplicity is said to be the key feature of the patented system. It comprises a specially perforated paper that covers the usual foil base on blister packs. The perforations can be adjusted to increase or reduce the level of child resistance by making the surface harder to leverage. This increases the difficulty for children to access the medication while still being weak enough to allow access by senior citizens, it is claimed.

At the same time, the Pill protect is said to provide a print-friendly surface for pharmaceutical manufacturers to brand their product and provide dosage information.

Three major pharmaceutical companies are said to have already adopted the new system.
