Peruvians pick Atlas slitter for CPP film line

26 September 2011

Atlas Converting Equipment has again been chosen as the preferred supplier of a 6.3m wide primary film slitter for a new CPP (cast polypropylene) film line at OPP Film in Lima, Peru. The 6.2m wide film line will be commissioned early in 2012 and will be one of the two widest CPP lines in operation worldwide, and the first in the Americas at this width.

OPP Film is a rapidly expanding company and this latest order will eventually bring the total number of Atlas and Titan slitter rewinders installed for its parent Oben Group to 12 machines. Two 8.9m wide primary slitters for two new BOPP film lines are currently being installed. A 6.8m wide machine was also commissioned in 2002.

Oben’s current BOPP film production capacity is about 100,000 tonnes/year; however, the two new BOPP film lines currently being commissioned in Lima, and the new CPP line due for start-up next year, will make the group the largest producer of PP film in South America. This reflects the dramatic growth in demand for flexible packaging film in the region.
