Performance proves positive

29 June 2011

According to Norprint Operations Director Mick Shooter, the new Mark Andy Performance series UV-flexo press installed at its plant in Boston, UK, “has changed the whole operational dynamics of the company because its lean manufacturing principle sits well with our business philosophy here!”

The new P5 - first to be installed in the UK - is a high performance servo-driven press with eight UV flexo units, delam/relam, and hotfoil facility. It is said to save an average 23% in makeready time, and an overall 26% in substrate waste compared with existing plant.

Described by Norprint as ‘the perfect bridge between conventional flexo and digital technology,’ the Mark Andy press has a new printhead design, which with its automatic register system means jobs can be run off quickly and efficiently with minimal waste material.

“This is vital,” explains Mr Shooter, “because the substrates we run are very expensive per linear metre – what used to be viewed as a consumable is now very much a valuable commodity.”
