Pafa welcomes Waste Review

1 July 2011

The UK’s Packaging and Films Association (Pafa) has welcomed the content of the British Government’s recently published Waste Review.

Barry Turner, Chief Executive of the association, said: “We welcome the clear fact that government is working with business and has outlined some sensible actions for going forward - including the moving away from weight to carbon impacts. This supports the industry’s desire to divert plastics from landfill and put plastic’s high resource value to beneficial use.

“We also welcome the government’s commitment to continue to develop and provide loans to fund the sorting and reprocessing capacity for non-bottle plastics. In doing so, government has correctly identified the current major impediment to achieving increased rates of plastic packaging recycling.”

Pafa also supported the government’s intentions to provide more guidance on energy from waste and to clarify that the evidence does not support health risk scares.
