In order to start preparations for the forthcoming REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) regulation, expected to be adopted next spring, The Packaging Federation has entered into a partnership with REACHReady, a subsidiary of the Chemical Industries Association. A one-day workshop was held recently to identify the key packaging industry concerns with selected PF members, representing all primary material streams, market sectors – commercial, industrial and household – as well as various business disciplines from marketing and operations, through to design and technical support.
The workshop agreed several action points, including developing guidance documents for the sector, in conjunction with PF Affiliates; a standard questionnaire to share information upstream as well as downstream; and joint activity with the REACHReady team and PF Affiliates to clarify the position on recycling and the use of recycled material.
