Pack improves child resistance

29 July 2004

The PharmaPak SHR is a new "small-hands-resistant, senior friendly and high compliance" packaging solution for pharmaceuticals. The result of a strategic alliance between Stora Enso and Bosch Packaging, it consists of a novel package design, a specially developed board material, and an automatic cartoning machine.

Incorporating a 'locking' device that took two years to develop, the PharmaPak SHR carton is a customized solution, said to be ideal for unit dose packages such as blister cards, but also suitable for ampoules, vials and syringes.

The cartons are made from the specially developed CKB Pharma TR board, which has high tear resistance. They have a 'both hands' opening system said to be easy for adults while keeping the contents from children. Bosch will manu- facture the packaging machine, while Stora will license the system 'concept' on a royalty basis.
