OPM upgrades print capability

7 February 2006

UK packaging and self adhesive labels specialist The OPM Group has completed a £200,000 re-fit of its Nilpeter FA-3300 UV flexo press, adding auto register upgrades and GEW lamp systems. The improvements complement the company's £1M recent investment in a Nilpeter FA-3300S servo press.

Chris Ellison, managing director of the Keighley based company, explains: "We bought our first FA-3300 in 2000, and it was the first Nilpeter dual substrate combination press in the UK. It has produced some fantastic work for us. However, even with its legacy of excellent work, we realised an upgrade would be a useful investment.

The re-engineered press now features the GEW VCP cold UV system, which combines quick curing capabilities with minimal heat. The reduction in stretch offered by VCP makes managing innovative substrates less complicated. The press now gives results that are more predictable and wastage is significantly reduced."

The installation of OPM's brand new servo press in January was planned to deal with "unpredecented demand" for flexible packaging and self adhesive labels, from sectors including food and retail, cosmetics,

brewing and confectionery.

Chris Ellison says of the servo press: "Set-up speeds are reduced and initial registration capabilities are first rate. The consistency of the servodrive also means that production speeds can be ramped up quickly with no damage to the substrates - especially flexibles."

OPM specializes in providing short run quantities for product tests or market trials. The re-fit will enable the group to improve the quality of its print capabilities and expand capacity to meet increasing demand.
