New Hubergroup ink plant in production

21 July 2005

The hubergroup's new MGA ink production site at MHM, in Kirchheim, Germany, has now begun production. MGA semi finished and process inks are also being produced at Info-Lab in Limerick, Ireland.

The MGA low migration, low odour and low swelling ink and varnish system has been developed specifically for printing food packaging. This sensitive area of production demands strict compliance with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice: universal optimization of the entire process chain, logging of each and every production step and the prevention of contamination through conventional inks and ink components.

Hubergroup's new plant at MHM has introduced a system that tracks the progress through the process chain of all materials used, right back to the suppliers of the raw materials. The plant has a plot footprint of 2,100 m2, and the same amount of space is available on the upper floor for potential expansion. It has seen the establishment of an extremely close link between production and quality assurance testing, to ensure maximum product reliability.

MGA vehicles, ink concentrates and process inks are being manufactured at the plant at Info-Lab in Ireland. Vehicle is being produced in a computer controlled facility with a 3m3 tank. Semi finished and process inks are milled and finished in state-of-the-art three-roll mills from Viva in batches of 500kg. The cans are filled by means of gravimetric metering and lidded and sealed automatically.

The quality control department monitors all process steps and documents them in the SAP host system. The vehicle is shipped to MHM in Kirchheim in heated thermal containers that guarantee a constant varnish temperature of 60-70degC.
