New dimension to 3D print

29 September 2009

UK speciality print finisher Reflections has introduced a print based product that provides a new and innovative three-dimensional optical illusion. The Optix technology was originally developed in America, but after a recent deal with the patent holder, Reflections now has exclusive rights to develop and produce it in Europe.

Joint managing director Luke Hastings explains: “Optix takes the concept of 3D technology to a completely new level. It creates unbelievable depth and the illusion of an image in suspended animation. Anybody who sees it is completely fascinated and compelled to try and look behind the sheet, and even attempt to put their hand inside the print!

”We see potential in every aspect of print, but we’ve already received great feedback from within the packaging industry, point-of-sale and magazine sectors. We are already working closely alongside a company within the plastic gift card market.”

Optix is said to offer a significant improvement on lenticular printing; in particular, it can be applied in ‘spot’ locations, leaving the main subject, such as a product or company logo, ‘in perfect focus’.
