New cellulose film line

29 May 2009

Innovia Films has commenced commercial production on a brand new cellulose film manufacturing line at its Wigton site in the UK. A €10mn investment, the new machine will replace two existing production lines which have been in operation since the late 1940s.

The state of the art equipment, which was predominantly designed and built in-house, will ultimately become Innovia’s highest output line. It will allow manufacture some grades faster than currently achieved and will consistently improve quality on others. Substantial environmental benefits and efficiencies were an integral part of the design and will lower the company’s carbon footprint.

Global sales and marketing director Alexander van 't Riet states: “The successful completion of this major project is testimony to our on-going commitment to cellulose film, a reflection of the dedication and skills of our highly experienced engineering team and a clear demonstration of our belief and desire to continue to bring further developments in cellulose technology to our customers.”

Innovia’s first NatureFlex films were launched in 2003, and have been awarded 13 major packaging accolades. A recent addition to the cellulose based films range includes the NatureFlex NK biodegradable, compostable and high barrier product, which is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, in particular dried foods and snacks.
