During the recent ProSweets 2010 exhibition in Cologne, Stora Enso introduced a new option for premium chocolate boxes and a multilayer kraft back board CKB aimed at high-end products.
Performa Bright is an extension of the brand which dominates the volumes Stora Enso sells into the chocolate and confectionery sector and is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food. Performa board grades offer high bulk and stiffness ‘without compromising purity and print quality’ due to the use of chemi-thermomechanical pulp (CTMP) in the middle layer, according to the company.
It believes Performa Bright¹s white uncoated reverse side is particularly suitable for high-class chocolate boxes.
Produced at the Fors Mill in Sweden, Performa Bright is claimed to be odour and taint neutral. It joins the product family with ‘the lowest Robinson test and migration level in the market’, says Wilfried Schmahl, sales director at Stora Enso Carton Board.
A second new offering is Ensocoat, with a new recipe said to make it whiter and brighter and giving a ‘bluer’ shade. It targets packaging that typically uses special effects such as embossing and hot-foil stamping, for cosmetics and luxury goods, chocolate and confectionery, wine and spirits and pharmaceutical products.
“As a pure solid bleached sulphate (SBS) board, Ensocoat offers the finest surface and mechanical properties for such applications,” said Ari Tanninen, market support manager, Stora Enso Carton Board, Imatra Mills, Finland. Comments from packaging converters after printing trials all have been ‘positive’, he adds.
The company has also introduced Ensocoat 2S as a replacement for the former Ensogloss.
It offers the same printing surface advantages as the new Ensocoat but on both sides.
Ensocoat ranges between170-380g/m2 and Ensocoat 2S between 190-500g/m2.
