New carbon neutrality standard

15 June 2010

Organisations can now ensure their carbon neutrality claims are correct, which will promote customer confidence and encourage action on climate change, thanks to a new specification recently published by the UK’s national standards body, BSI.

PAS 2060 gives guidance on how to quantify, reduce and offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to activities including industrial production, end products and services.

The BSI standard has been developed with the UK government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and businesses including UK retailers Marks & Spencer and Co-operative Group

PAS 2060 aims to help businesses reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and meet their environmental, energy performance and economic goals.

Sustainability Manager at Marks & Spencer, Rowland Hill, has welcomed PAS 2060 ‘as a robust and transparent means of demonstrating carbon neutrality’.
