New bioplastics plant in Italy

18 May 2011

A bioplastics manufacturing plant is to be established in Assisi, Italy, by US-based company Cereplast. The initial investment is estimated at around €12 million and, when completed, will bring about 150 new jobs to the area

Frederic Scheer, Chairman and CEO of Cereplast, states: "The development of this plant reflects our continued commitment to providing bioplastic resin to meet soaring demand for this material in the European market. Currently, 85% of our business is based in Europe. This new manufacturing facility will position Cereplast to effectively serve that expanding market."

The plant will have a total capacity of approximately 100,000 tonnes. The first phase of 50,000 tonnes is expected to start manufacturing in late-2012, and the second phase of 50,000 tonnes is planned for mid-2013, based on market demand.
