New base boosts Scandstick

8 February 2006

Supplier of self adhesive labelstock Scandstick UK has relocated from St Neots to a new, 36,363m2 plant at Sawtry. The company has also installed a new one metre wide coating line and two new slitters for self adhesive labelstock.

The new, 60m long adhesive coating and siliconizing line, supplied by Rotomec, enables high speed, high quality conversion of filmic and paper roll laminates down to 20 micron. Its installation means Sawtry can now supply all roll material requirements for Scandstick's UK and Ireland customers, without the support of the Swedish parent company's Helsingborg plant. The UK site will also be the sole production point for Scandstick's TakTik branded sheet labelstock and FlatSam gum paper sheets, used in the retail, promotional and postal sectors. Lead time for most products is said to be 48 hours maximum.

The closure of the original plant at St Neots ends an era of coating production spanning nearly two centuries. The site was formerly that of Samuel Jones, one of the earliest laminators, whose gummed label business began in 1810. Scandstick bought the company's UK interests in 2002.
