Multi-purpose ink system has maximum effect

30 July 2012

SunUno Solimax is Sun Chemical’s latest range of inks providing a single platform that can cover multiple end-use applications. It is suitable for both surface and reverse flexo and gravure print applications on many commonly used flexible packaging substrates, and claimed to maximise pressroom efficiency while simplifying the overall print production process.

Intended for surface printing and adhesive lamination for applications such as lidding materials, medical laminates and food packaging for confectionery and snack food, SunUno Solimax is compatible with both solvent-free and solvent-based lamination technologies.

Long-standing Sun Chemical customer Bemis Elsham in Brigg, UK, has been testing the new ink since the beginning of 2012. Print manager Jim O’Donnell reports: “It performed excellently and impressed us with how well it printed the minimum dot, as well as having good colour clarity and strong density. This is exactly what we are looking for in an ink system.”

He adds: “We have been using up to five ink systems in the past, and are at present running with a two-ink system. The ‘Holy Grail’ is to run on just one. Not only will we significantly improve our environmental positioning with the multi-purpose system, we will also increase our efficiency and productivity, which will ultimately improve our bottom line.”

O’Donnell believes that SunUno Solimax will be used across all of his company’s products by the end of this year, due to the positive contribution it is bringing to Bemis Elsham’s business.
