As part of the new joint venture with Ahlstrom (see May issue), Sonoco is to build an additional paper based tube and core facility in Gaziantep, Turkey. The new plant, with between 14 and 18 employees, is expected to commence operation by the end of 2004. The joint venture will be known as Sonoco-Alcore.

Sonoco currently has a tube and core plant in Bursa, Turkey, which is operating at full capacity.
