Mill Lane moves to CTP

26 August 2004

UK based Mill Lane Envelopes has installed Fujifilm's Luxel Vx-9600 CTP B1+ platesetter with on-line processor, Brillia LP-NV plates and chemistry together with the Fuji Rampage Open Workflow. A key criterion for the company was the ability to image a plate that would use the full width of its 44in Komori press. The Luxel Vx-600, although classed as a B1 unit, is able to image the extra area to suit the press.

Also important was the cost of maintenance, which ruled out a thermal engine. Andy Ray, prepress manager at Mill Lane, says: "The diodes for a thermal platesetter are extremely expensive to replace. The thermal devices we considered had 16 or 32 of these and they're not covered in the warranty – we did the sums. It was also important to get everything from a single source. Having only one phone number to call makes life so much easier."

He says the installation of the Fujifilm platesetter, processor and Fuji Rampage Open Workflow was competed in just three days.

"The benefits of CTP were immediately apparent. The plates are perfectly clean and registration is brilliant. The press minders noticed the difference as soon as they put the first set of plates on, they can get up to colour more easily."
