Metallic printed colours – in a digital process

1 July 2013

Scodix Metallic utilises the CMYK colour process to enable printing with metallic colouring in a digital single-pass print process. Metallic colours can now be achieved without the need for traditional foil stamping resources, states Scodix.

The patent pending process, using Scodix S digital enhancement presses with Scodix RSP Technology, applies a clear polymer over the selected CMYK colours, providing a printed sheet with gold, silver, bronze, embossing, textures, high and low levels of clear polymer effects - in one single pass. It is also said to protect the printed image and the metallic impact from scratching and scuffing - "a clear advantage over traditional foil stamping process".

Scodix CEO Kobi Bar explains: "Using two CCD cameras and Scodix IP image algorithm, allows users to manipulate every image - scaling the image on X and Y axes, shifting and rotating it when required - making sure perfect quality and precise print registration, delivering perfect metallic colors."
