Measurable control over fount solution

12 August 2011

Two technotrans control systems have been installed on a Roland 806 6-colour B1 press at carton converter Graphic Packaging International’s factory in Bristol, UK. One is an alpha.r reverse osmosis system which feeds standardised water into the dampening solution which is, in turn, kept at a consistent temperature by an alpha.d dampening solution circulator.

“Temperature control is critical to quality and productivity, but the dampening solution itself must be right,” says technical manager Justin May. “When we measured the pH and conductivity of our water we were shocked at the inconsistency. Water supplied to us came from many different sources. We needed to standardise the water to optimise our results and that is what we have done to good effect with reverse osmosis.”
