Maxson shaftless roll stand reduces downtime

3 August 2007

US manufacturer Maxson has developed a pivot arm roll stand able to handle rolls from 457-2134mm in diameter and up to 4,545kg at speeds approaching 1,000m/min.

The hydraulically powered unit loads the roll using the far chucking arm, which moves back and forth through a screw drive to accommodate various size rolls. Clamping pressure drives the chucks into the core.

The roll stand is mounted on tracks to be moved off-line for loading, which allows the sheeter to continue to run while the roll stand is being loaded out of the web flow. Narrow rolls can also be staggered across the width of the sheeter.
