Making light work

26 January 2006

Light Impressions International is to invest some $100,000 in a new laser studio facility at its UK headquarters in Leatherhead. The company has also obtained the services of a holographer skilled in the crafting of 'true' analogue holograms.

A pioneer in the production of embossed holograms in the early 1980s, Light Impressions provides a range of anti counterfeiting products. It has found that there is more security to be gained in making analogue holograms by the traditional route of 'classic' holography, rather than digital, which can be more easily simulated by the determined counterfeiter.

'Classic' holography is highly dependent upon the skills of a master model maker or jeweller to make tiny three-dimensional solid models. These are then lit with a laser light to produce the analogue hologram with the multi dimensional 'look around' affect. The unique 3D images and colours inherent to the product make it impossible for anyone without access to the master to counterfeit.
