Corona and plasma systems supplier Plasmawerk Hamburg has secured what it believes to be one of the largest orders for BOPP pretreatment systems ever awarded.
The customer is the Andritz, mechanical engineering group in the pulp and paper industry, based in Graz, Austria. With the acquisition of certain assets of the insolvent DMT Technologies, Andritz Biax has extended its product range to include modern stretch film production lines for the production of BOPP and BOPET films. The corona systems supplied by Plasmawerk are an important component in the company’s first new machines.
In April, Plasmawerk will ship to Andritz Biax the first of three systems for double-sided corona pretreatment with a working width of 8.2m and an operating speed of more than 500m/min. Two further systems will be shipped later this year. Each is made of special steel and has three separate corona stations with a total of 480kW plasma output.
Together, the three systems have a total output of 1.44MW which, says Plasmawerk, ‘might be the largest order in the history of corona technology’.
