M-real label paper has potential

10 November 2006

Zanders Trevi is a new uncoated label paper from M-real, claimed to combine superb printing and finishing qualities with a distinctive look and feel. It is said to be ideal for premium drinks ranges, wines and spirits, and especially suitable for embossing and foil blocking, due to its high bulk properties.

There are three finishes in the Zanders Trevi range: Wove, “with a very smooth surface that lends itself to modern designs”; Vergé, which has “a highly tactile, embossed linear pattern”; and Laid, “with more traditional, integral laid lines”. All finishes come in two colours, Natural White and Premium White, and in substances of 80 and 90g/m2.

M-real promises “excellent printability and brilliant colour reproduction, combined with high opacity”. Characteristics include good print-out of both solid and fine screened areas; resistance to rub-off and scratching; fast ink drying due to a minimum ph-value of 7.3; “very good” runnability on the press; and suitability for gold bronzing. The Wove finish is designed to offer no difference in printability between either side of the paper.

Zanders Trevi labelstock is also said to perform well in the converting and labelling process, with high volume for deep stamping, good workability for sharp edged stamping and little reversion after labelling. Die cutting or punching produces “a smooth and dust-free cut, optimal flatness, is burr free with no blocking, and gives continuous glide-through”. Freedom from abrasive pigments is said to prolong the life of cutting tools and require only a low punching pressure.

The new labelstock comes in two sizes - 52 x 72cm LG and 72 x 102cm LG - either ream wrapped or bulk packed. Special sizes are also available on request.
