Leopard's greyscale gains

25 July 2003

Xaar has announced worldwide availability of its Leopard printhead following the successful completion of beta testing with companies in the CD/DVD and plastics card printing markets. Based on the company's greyscale technology and developed in collaboration with licensee Toshiba TEC, it is claimed to offer near photographic quality reproduction and has been designed for printing UV curable inks in applications including cartons and labels.

As the Leopard can generate higher resolution images with fewer pixels, it is also said to offer significant speed benefits when compared with binary printing. Its variable drop size can also allow tailoring of ink volume to match the substrate.
